DOGWOOD Exhibition

Col Ritchie is an Australian painter and sculptor
from The Northern Beaches of New South Wales.

Landscape Paintings

Drawing inspiration from nature, his landscape paintings are a dynamic fusion of expressive realism and abstraction, balancing the tangible beauty of the environment with a more abstract, emotional interpretation of it.
Col masterfully blends realistic depictions of the Australian landscape with abstract elements, creating compositions that are both grounded in the natural world and liberated from its confines. His work captures the essence of place not just through precise detail, but through the emotive power of colour, texture and form. The landscapes in his painting come to life with vibrant, almost lyrical brushstrokes, while abstract elements - such as fluid shapes or unexpected colour contrasts - suggest the underlying energy and movement of nature.
Col’s ability to weave together the representational and the abstract creates a unique, compelling vision - one that resonates with art lovers and collectors who appreciate the balance of realism with the freedom of artistic expression.

Dog Sculptures

Col Ritchie’s Bark Dog Sculptures are all carefully hand-crafted from clay and hand-painted, ensuring that no two are alike. Each piece is carefully created to capture the distinct personalities of man’s best friend.
Through his mastery of form and texture, Col brings the spirit of each dog to life, imbuing his sculptures with a sense of movement and life. Every curve, stance, and facial expression is carefully crafted to convey the unique traits that define each individual dog.
Col’s work elevates each sculpture from a mere representation to a true emotional portrait. His pieces resonate with viewers, their almost lifelike qualities drawing the viewer in to connect with the personality and spirt of the animal.
Col’s dog sculptures invite those who view them to pause, smile, and remember the unique qualities that make every dog so special.

Young Archie Portrait

Phill is my godfather. He has always been a voice of calm and positivity for me.
His family ancestry is from the Wiradjuri people of NSW and from County Kerry in Ireland.
A former artist and intensive care paramedic, he recently completed his PhD in Aboriginal Child Health Education at age 81.
Phill has encouraged me to keep pushing myself and has been there to advise me on projects that have gone astray, encouraging me to accept any perceived flaws as learning opportunities.
Importantly, as an artistic mentor, he has always encouraged me to embrace my artistic individuality.
